One day, high up in the great blue sky, a small cloud named Chhoti lived. Chhoti enjoyed drifting along and watching the world below. However, there was one thing Chhoti did not want to do — rain.
“I don’t want to feel heavy and drop water,” Chhoti said. “I just want to fly and drift around.”
On the ground, the flowers were wilting, and the animals were very thirsty. The little rose said, “Chhoti, please send us rain. We really need water to grow.”
The playful monkey jumped up and down, saying, “Come on, Chhoti, just a little rain, please! We need it to drink and play.”
But Chhoti shook her fluffy self and said, “No, I want to stay dry and light.”
Days went by, and the plants grew more and more sad. The river had less water, and even the birds stopped singing.
One night, a wise old peacock flew close to Chhoti and said, “Chhoti, when you bring rain, you make the world happy. And when you share, you will be happy too.”
Chhoti thought for a while. “Sharing is probably not so bad after all.”
Then she gathered all her water and started to rain softly. The animals cheered, the flowers smiled, and the river flowed happily again.
Chhoti felt a warm feeling inside. Her rain made her happy, and it helped the whole world.
Lesson: Sharing makes others and yourself happy.
