It was a bright morning in Vrindavan, and the gentle breeze carried the sound of Krishna’s flute through the fields.
By the Yamuna River, the Gopis, the cowherd girls, were singing songs in praise of Govinda, their beloved Krishna.
They had come to the river to bathe and pray for Krishna’s blessings. Their hearts were full of love and devotion, and their songs filled the air with joy.
Krishna, who loved to play and teach through His divine mischief, came quietly with His friends. Seeing the Gopis’ colourful sarees and dupattas on the riverbank, He smiled.
“Let Me see,” He whispered, “how pure their love truly is.”
He gathered all their clothes and climbed up the nearby kadamba tree, calling out cheerfully, “Dear Gopis! The morning sun is rising. Come and take your clothes!”
The Gopis laughed, thinking it was one of Krishna’s pranks. “Krishna! You naughty one, please return them!”
But Krishna replied softly, “My dear Gopis, you have prayed for Me with love, asking for closeness to My heart.
Now, come to Me as you are — without pride or fear — for when you surrender your heart to God, you are never without protection.”
The Gopis looked at one another and understood His words. Slowly, with humility and faith, they came closer, covering themselves with the water of the Yamuna as they walked.
Krishna smiled, His eyes glowing with compassion. “See,” He said, “you have shown me your pure hearts — free from all doubt and pride. From this day, your devotion shall be known as the highest form of love.”
He waved His flute gently, and their sarees appeared back upon them, shining with the colours of sunlight.
The Gopis bowed deeply, their eyes full of divine joy.
The wind carried Krishna’s laughter across Vrindavan as He disappeared into the trees, leaving behind a melody that still echoes by the Yamuna — the song of trust, surrender, and eternal love.
Moral of the Story:
When we surrender to God with faith and humility, He fills our hearts with light and love.
