High above the sleeping village, a little star named Chinki wiggled impatiently.
“Moon uncle, when will I shine as big and bright as you?” she asked.
The Moon smiled softly. “Soon, little one. But shining takes time.”
“I don’t want to wait!” Chinki puffed up all her light at once, trying to burst into a big, bright glow. But her light only flickered and dimmed, tired from trying too hard.
The Moon chuckled gently. “Watch me instead. I don’t rush into fullness in one night. Every night, I grow just a little rounder, a little brighter, until I become full.”
“But how do you wait so patiently?” Chinki asked.
“I count,” said the Moon. “One twinkle, two twinkles, three… Each twinkle is a little wish, growing slowly into something bigger. Try it with me.”
Chinki blinked once. Then twice. By the time she reached seven soft twinkles, her light had steadied — smaller than the Moon’s, but calm and clear.
“See?” said the Moon. “You didn’t need to rush. You only needed to twinkle, and wait, and twinkle again.”
Chinki counted her seven twinkles every night after that, growing a little brighter, a little steadier, one patient twinkle at a time.
And far below, a little girl watching from her window counted along with her — one, two, three… — until she drifted softly to sleep.
