Unveiling the storyteller behind the pages.

English Short Stories is India’s home for curated emotional storytelling in English. We publish short stories rooted in Indian life, values, and emotion — each one complete with the moral inside, vocabulary worth keeping, and a meaning that stays long after the last line. Every story is handpicked or written with one question in mind: does this carry something true worth your time?

My name is Suketu Bhatt. I started this platform because I wanted a place where Indian readers could find short stories that felt like home — warm, meaningful, and complete. I write some stories myself, curate others, and occasionally work with invited contributors. Every story published here has been chosen or shaped by a real human being, not an algorithm. English Short Stories is a platform by Kashyap Infomedia Private Limited.

Yes, completely and always. Every story, every vocabulary section, every PDF storybook we publish is free to read. There is no subscription required, no paywall, and no hidden fees. We believe good stories should be accessible to everyone.

We publish new stories regularly throughout the week. The best way to never miss one is to subscribe to our daily story email — one story delivered to your inbox every morning. You can also bookmark our Story of the Day page which updates daily.

Stories come from three sources. Some are written by Suketu Bhatt, the founder. Some are carefully curated from the rich tradition of Indian storytelling. Some are shaped with editorial oversight using modern writing tools. Every story regardless of source goes through the same editorial process — it must carry something emotionally true and complete before it is published.

Our seven genres are Moral Stories, Spiritual Stories, Emotional Stories, Inspirational Stories, Indian Life Stories, Story Series, and English Learning Stories. Within each genre you can filter by mood — Heartwarming, Nostalgic, Thought-provoking, Uplifting, Bittersweet, Calming, Funny and Light, Tear-jerker, Family, and Festive. Every story belongs to one genre and carries one to three moods so you can always find exactly what you need for how you are feeling right now.

Every story on this platform is complete — not just in terms of narrative but in terms of value. Along with the story itself you get the moral woven naturally inside, a vocabulary section written like a friend explaining, key phrases you can use in real conversation, a quick glossary for cultural or complex terms, and a three-line summary you can carry with you. No other storytelling platform combines all of this in one seamless reading experience. We call it the complete story and it is the only kind we publish.

Many of our moral and inspirational stories are suitable for older children and teenagers, particularly the Simple level stories. However our platform is primarily designed for adult readers — young adults, professionals, and the Indian diaspora. If you are looking for stories to read with younger children we recommend filtering by the Moral Stories genre and choosing stories marked as Simple reads.

Every story on English Short Stories naturally builds your English through reading rather than exercises. After each story you will find vocabulary words explained in plain English, key phrases shown in real-life context, a pronunciation guide for difficult words, and usage examples that show how language actually lives in conversation. You learn without feeling like a student. The story comes first — the language learning is woven invisibly inside.

These are part of what we call the complete story format. The vocabulary section called Words Worth Keeping highlights five to eight important words from the story with plain English definitions and example sentences. The glossary called Quick Glossary explains cultural Indian terms or less common expressions that appear in the story. Both sections are written in the same warm voice as the story itself — never like a textbook.

Yes. We have a dedicated vocabulary archive at englishshortstories.com/vocabulary and a phrases archive at englishshortstories.com/phrases where every word and expression from every story is collected, sorted alphabetically, and searchable. Each entry links back to the story it came from so you can read the full context whenever you want.

Yes and we would love to hear from you. English Short Stories is editorially curated — we do not operate as an open publishing platform where anyone can post freely. But we genuinely believe the best stories often come from real lives. If you have a story rooted in Indian life, emotion, moral wisdom, or spiritual truth please use our Submit a Story page. Every submission is read personally. If your story is selected we will contact you directly before publishing.

Simply enter your name and email address in any subscription form on the site — on the homepage, at the bottom of any story page, or on any genre page. You will receive a confirmation email first. Once confirmed you will get one story in your inbox every morning. No spam, no promotions, just one story worth your time. You can unsubscribe at any time with one click.

You can reach us through the contact form on our Contact page or by emailing us directly at contact.englishshortstories@gmail.com. We read every message personally and respond within two to three working days. If you have a story suggestion, a correction to report, or just want to share how a story made you feel — we genuinely want to hear from you.
