The Night Krishna Was Born

The Night Krishna Was Born

The hours before Krishna's birth. Devaki in the prison cell. Hope in complete darkness.
Reading Time: 2 minutes

The night was dark and rainy.

Inside a prison in Mathura, Queen Devaki sat quietly on the cold floor. She was about to have her baby.

Her husband, Vasudeva, sat beside her. Heavy chains were tied around his hands and feet.

Outside the prison, thunder rumbled in the sky.

Devaki looked at her husband and smiled gently.

“Do not worry,” she said.

Vasudeva tried to smile back, but he was afraid.

For many years, Devaki and Vasudeva had lived in this prison. Devaki’s brother, King Kansa, had become cruel and powerful. A prophecy had said that Devaki’s eighth child would one day defeat him.

Because of this, Kansa was afraid.

Tonight, Devaki’s eighth child was about to be born.

Another flash of lightning lit up the prison cell.

“Will our baby be safe?” Vasudeva asked softly.

Devaki placed her hand on her heart.

“I believe everything will be alright,” she replied.

Soon, the baby was born.

At that very moment, something amazing happened.

The prison became calm.

The chains on Vasudeva fell open.

The prison doors unlocked by themselves.

The guards outside fell into a deep sleep.

Vasudeva looked around in surprise.

“It is a miracle!” he whispered.

Devaki gently held the baby in her arms.

The child was Krishna.

Even though he was small, his arrival filled the room with hope.

Vasudeva carefully placed baby Krishna in a basket.

He knew he had to take him to safety.

As he left the prison, the rain continued to fall, but somehow the path ahead seemed clear.

Devaki watched them go and prayed for her son.

That night, a child was born.

But he would grow up to teach the world about courage, kindness, truth, and love.

And every year, people remember that special night by celebrating Janmashtami.

Sometimes, even in the darkest moments, hope finds a way to shine.

💬 Reflection Corner
Why did Devaki look at her pregnancy as a message of protection rather than an added danger during her dark hours? When you feel trapped by a difficult situation in your own life, what is the first thing that begins to weaken—your patience or your hope? How can we practice finding a sense of "inner calm" when our external surroundings are chaotic and loud? What is the difference between giving up in weakness and consciously surrendering our anxieties to a higher spiritual path? Why do you think human beings often discover their greatest internal strengths only when they have completely run out of options?
