Milo Stopped Worrying

Milo Stopped Worrying

Milo the mouse curled up in a warm cosy hole — a calming bedtime story about stopping worry.
Reading Time: < 1 minute

Milo the mouse sat inside his cosy little hole in the skirting board, wrapped in a soft scrap of cotton wool.

But his tiny nose kept twitching.

“I shouldn’t have dropped my acorn this morning,” he murmured. “And what if it rains tomorrow? What if the cat comes back? What if—”

“Milo.” A sleepy voice came from the corner.

It was old Dadi Mouse, tucked under a thimble like a blanket.

“You’re worrying again,” she said, without opening her eyes.

“But yesterday was so—”

“Yesterday is gone, little one.”

“But tomorrow might—”

“Tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.”

Milo was quiet.

Dadi Mouse finally opened one eye. “What do you have right now, at this very moment?”

Milo looked around. Warm cotton wool. A crumb of roti on the shelf. The soft sound of rain on the window, far away.

“I have… everything I need,” he said slowly.

“Then stop looking elsewhere,” said Dadi Mouse, closing her eye again. “The present moment is the only home we ever really have.”

Milo curled his tail around himself and tucked his nose into the warmth.

The rain came. Gently. Like a lullaby.

And Milo, for the first time in a long time, simply let himself be.

Goodnight, Milo. Goodnight, little worries. You can all go now.

📖 Story in Brief
Milo the mouse can't sleep because he's worrying about yesterday's mistakes and tomorrow's fears. His wise Dadi Mouse gently reminds him that the past is gone, the future hasn't arrived, and the only real home is the present moment. Milo looks around at what he has right now and finally lets himself rest.
💡 The Lesson Inside
Yesterday is gone and tomorrow hasn't come yet. Right now, in this moment, is the only place where peace lives.
✨ Words Worth Keeping
Twitching – moving with small, quick, nervous movements, the way a mouse's nose moves when it's worried
Murmured – spoke softly in a low voice, almost to himself
Cosy – warm, comfortable, and snug, like a place you never want to leave
Present – this exact moment, right here, right now
not the past, not the future
Lullaby – a soft, gentle song that helps someone fall asleep
🌱 Phrases to Remember
Let yourself be
to stop fighting your thoughts and simply rest in the moment, without trying to fix or change anything.
Stop looking elsewhere
to stop searching for happiness or peace somewhere outside of where you already are.
The present moment
the exact time that is happening right now, not yesterday, not tomorrow, just this single breath, this single second.
Let it go
to consciously decide to stop holding onto a worry, a mistake, or a feeling that is no longer serving you.
Tuck yourself in - to make yourself snug and settled, physically or emotionally, ready for rest
the way someone wraps a blanket warmly around you before sleep.
