The Flute That Lost Its Song

Story

In the green fields of Vrindavan, where laughter and music filled the air, Lord Krishna once sat beneath a kadamba tree, playing His flute.
The melody flowed so sweetly that even the river Yamuna paused to listen.

Among all His possessions, Krishna loved His flute the most. It was not made of gold or silver, but of simple bamboo — hollow, light, and pure.
Every note that came from it carried love, peace, and devotion to every heart that heard it.

One morning, Krishna’s flute lay quietly beside Him. For the first time, it made no sound.
Krishna lifted it gently and whispered, “Why do you not sing today, my friend?”

The flute replied softly, “Prabhu, I feel empty.”

Krishna smiled. “That emptiness is what gives you music. Without space inside, you could never sing.”

But the flute said sadly, “I’ve seen others — the conch in your hand, the Sudarshan Chakra — they fight for You. I only sing. I wish to be something greater.”

Krishna’s smile faded. “Very well,” He said tenderly, “if that is your wish, then Tathāstu.

The flute suddenly felt heavy. Its body turned into solid gold. But when Krishna brought it to His lips, no sound came.

The flute wept. “O Muralidhar, I thought being precious would make me greater. But I’ve lost Your breath, my life.”

Krishna touched it lovingly. “My dear flute, true greatness is not in shining outside but being hollow enough to let divine music flow through you.”

With that, Krishna blew softly again. The golden flute turned back into bamboo — simple, pure, and light.
And its song once again filled Vrindavan with love.

Even today, it is said that when the wind moves through bamboo groves, one can still hear the soft echo of Krishna’s flute.
