Story

Rohan loved football more than anything else.

Every afternoon after school, he rushed to the playground near his apartment building. He practiced passing, dribbling, and shooting until the sky turned orange.

This year, Rohan was selected for his school's football team. He was thrilled.

But there was one problem.

He was always on the bench.

During matches, Coach Mehta usually chose older and more experienced players. Rohan watched from the sidelines while his teammates played.

At first, he stayed positive.

"My chance will come," he told himself.

But after several matches, his patience began to fade.

One day, after sitting on the bench for an entire game, Rohan kicked a water bottle across the ground.

"It's not fair!" he complained to his friend Arjun.

"You work hard," Arjun said. "Maybe Coach just doesn't notice."

Rohan nodded, but deep inside, he felt disappointed.

The next morning, Coach Mehta called the team together.

"We have an important tournament next month," he said. "Everyone must keep training. Football is not only about the eleven players on the field. A strong team needs every player."

Rohan listened, but the words did not make him feel much better.

Days turned into weeks.

While some players left early after practice, Rohan stayed behind.

He practiced passing against a wall.

He ran extra laps.

He worked on controlling the ball with both feet.

Sometimes he was the only player left on the ground.

One evening, Coach Mehta walked over.

"Still practicing?" he asked.

Rohan shrugged.

"I want to improve."

Coach smiled.

"Good. Keep going."

The tournament finally arrived.

The school team played well and reached the semi-final.

The match was intense.

The score was tied 1-1.

Then, with fifteen minutes left, disaster struck.

Vikram, the team's midfielder, twisted his ankle and could not continue.

The coach looked around.

"Rohan!" he called.

For a moment, Rohan thought he had heard wrong.

"Yes, sir?"

"Get ready. You're going in."

His heart raced.

This was the chance he had been waiting for.

As he stepped onto the field, he remembered all those evenings of practice.

The extra laps.

The lonely training sessions.

The days he wanted to quit.

Now they suddenly felt worth it.

The game restarted.

At first, Rohan felt nervous.

But after a few touches, he relaxed.

He made simple passes.

He supported his teammates.

He stayed focused.

With just three minutes remaining, Rohan intercepted a loose ball near midfield.

Instead of trying to score himself, he quickly passed to Arjun, who was running toward the goal.

Arjun shot.

GOAL!

The crowd erupted in cheers.

The final whistle blew moments later.

Their school had won 2-1.

The players celebrated wildly.

Arjun ran over and hugged Rohan.

"That pass won us the match!"

Coach Mehta smiled proudly.

"You stayed ready when your team needed you."

That evening, while holding his medal, Rohan realised something important.

Patience did not mean sitting and waiting.

Patience meant working hard even when nobody noticed.

Because when the opportunity finally arrived, he was ready for it.

And that made all the difference.
